5 Positive Things That Happen When You Accept Being Alone

As a person who considers himself somewhat of a lone wolf, I enjoy having time to myself.  It doesn’t mean that I don’t like spending time with my friends and family, or that I despise going to social gatherings or activities, I just value alone-time as much or more than time with others.
There seems to be an increasing number of people who absolutely hate being alone, but spending time by yourself is a great thing to learn how to do.
Here are five great reasons to embrace taking on life all by yourself:
Your natural inner strength comes out
When you have no one but yourself to rely on, you learn pretty quickly what you’re capable of doing.  A lot of people, including myself, have always had someone there to rely on, leaving us with a weakened sense of self-reliance.  
The truth is that life is one big rollercoaster of ups and downs, and knowing how navigate them by yourself is crucial to achieving your goals.  Throw yourself into the fire, but be confident that you’ll come out on the other side one way or another.
Relationships become stronger, less reliant
When I was younger it seemed that I always had a girlfriend, I was never single.  Which, to some, might sound like a good thing, but it was actually because I was heavily co-dependent on others.  
Never rely on someone else for your happiness and wellbeing, or let yourself become the sole source of happiness for someone else.  In the end, it only creates resentment.
Being alone does not mean you are lonely
Loneliness and being alone are two very different things, and being able to recognize the difference is huge.  Many of us know very well that even when you’re around others, you’re not necessarily immune to loneliness.  
Being alone should always be preferred to spending time with people who are toxic or make you unhappy.
You learn how to support yourself, your decisions, your goals, etc.
Living your life for another person is one of the fastest ways to become depressed.  There will undoubtedly be times when your choices will not be supported by your friends and family members, but remember that your goals are not their goals, and what you want out of life will always be different from what others want out of life.  
Don’t be afraid to build the life you want to build because of what others will say or think.
You become more mindful and present
For some reason, one of the hardest things to achieve on a consistent basis is the ability to truly live in the moment.  
We’re constantly distracting ourselves with things that don’t matter. Ever wonder why everyone’s head is buried in their phone rather than looking up at the world?  
Being alone allows you more opportunity to simply exist in the moment.
